What is a coreless motors?

A coreless motor is a motor that does not have an iron core inside the coil. Unlike conventional motors, the rotor does not have an iron core, which makes it lighter and more responsive at high speeds. In addition, the absence of an iron core reduces cogging (the sensation of catching during rotation), resulting in stable rotation characteristics.

Features of coreless motors

・Compact and lightweight
Since there is no iron core, the weight is light.

・Excellent controllability
Since the rotor is lightweight and has low inertia, the mechanical time constant of the rotor can be reduced. As a result, quick start and stop are possible, enabling excellent responsiveness.

・Smooth mobility (cogging-free)
General motors have an iron core. This iron core is attracted to the permanent magnet, causing torque ripple during motor drive states and cogging torque in non-energized states, which are types of torque fluctuations.
Such torque fluctuations can be one of the reasons for the inability to perform targeted operations in electronic devices.
In contrast, coreless motors have no iron core (core), resulting in virtually no torque pulsations and smooth rotation.

・High efficiency and energy savings
The absence of an iron core eliminates iron loss between the magnets, resulting in a high-efficiency motor that can operate at low current consumption.
Therefore, in battery-powered products, it is possible to achieve long battery life.

・Precious metal brushes and carbon brushes
C.I. TAKIRON uses many precious metal brushes because they are highly conductive and can operate at low voltages.
Carbon brushes can be used for applications that require relatively large currents, such as motors that are frequently turned on and off.
In addition, brush motors generate large currents during heavy loads because the commutator and brushes come into contact during rotation.
As a countermeasure for such large currents, adding capacitors is possible, so please feel free to consult with us regarding operation.

・Low-voltage startup
Our small motors can start up at low voltages, enabling the operation of small devices using contactless power supply such as NFC in smartphones.
We also offer models that can be started at a minimum of 1.0V, and we can consider low-voltage characteristics tailored to your needs.
